Buying a Home in Bastrop

The median listing price for homes in Bastrop typically stays around $300,000. More than 80 percent of residents own their homes, and there are many family-friendly communities located close to public schools, parks, restaurants and shopping centers.

Before investing in a Bastrop home, list the features that you must have as well as those that you would like to have but can do without. This will help you maneuver a competitive real estate market that features many upscale homes with luxury amenities. Knowing the difference between what you need and what you want will help you select a home that fits your lifestyle without overstepping your budget.

Buying vs. Rent to Own Homes

Have you seen signs for rent-to-own homes in Bastrop? These homes are for sale just like all others on the market, but they give you the option to rent the property before buying. You start out as a renter, and a portion of your rental fee will sometimes go towards your down payment on the property. Once you secure funding and purchase the home, it leaves the market and you become the owner. This is a slower path to homeownership, but it’s a good option if you need more time to secure funding.

Summary

If you enjoy meandering through the forest or hiking, biking, swimming, fishing and kayaking in natural landscapes, you may consider Bastrop one of the best small towns in southern Texas. The city is home to Lake Bastrop, and the Colorado River wanders through the center of town. There are mountain ranges and recreational points in all directions of the city, and several larger cities offer employment and entertainment options within a short commute of town. Add an affordable cost of living, and you see why more than 7,000 people now call this small city home.
