Overview

Originally named Hughes Station, Brighton was eventually renamed in honor of Brighton Beach, New York. This town in northern Colorado is a home rule municipality and seat of government for Adams County. Its 21.45 square miles are located 14 miles from Thornton and 20 miles from Denver International Airport.

Growing and thriving over the past two decades, Brighton went from a census of population of 14,203 residents in 1990 to more than 33,000 in 2010. The United States Census Bureau now estimates that the city’s 2016 population exceeds 38,000 residents. In 2010, the number of housing units climbed to 11,387.

As a testament to the area’s economic vibrancy, Brighton’s household income has also surged in the past 20 years. From 2011 to 2015, local median household income was $61,051, up from $46,779 in 2000. Today, locals are earning even more with a median household income of $74,931. Part of this income growth is due to expanding energy, manufacturing, higher education and healthcare markets. Some of the area’s top employers include Adams County, Vestas, Platte Valley Medical Center, Baker Hughes and O’Neal Flat Rolled Metals.

Buying vs. Rent to Own Homes

In a town like Brighton where house values are strong and home prices are climbing, rent to own arrangements are a welcome alternative to conventional home purchases. This is especially true for prospective homebuyers who don’t have large down payments or who need to improve their credit ratings. A rent to own home allows buyers to lock in today’s home prices before values escalate more. One to three years is the usual duration of a rent-to-own arrangement, giving buyers time to improve their financial strength while making monthly progress on the home purchase.

Summary

Brighton is a beautiful Colorado town, rich in history, recreation and employment. It’s easy to stay active here, with many community bike rides, a bike-in community movie night, a family aquatic center, Barr Lake State Park and a skate park. There’s even a fall four-mile corn maze in the shape of two wolves and a bear. The town is also home to a variety of new and growing industries. Schools are strong here, and home values are robust as well. The city is bordered on the east by Interstate 76 and on the west by Highway 85, so travel around the region is quick and convenient.
