The city population of Brook Park has declined a bit over the past 18 years, but the town remains home to an estimated 18,626 residents. The town is relatively new, incorporating in 1961. While the official town is young, the community itself was part of Middleburg Township since 1914. Brook Park’s unusual border, which winds around Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, is a result of a land swap agreement between Brook Park Mayor Thomas J. Coyne Jr. and Cleveland’s mayor. The 2001 deal traded Brook Park’s expo center land to Cleveland so that the airport could extend its runways. In return, Brook Park gained land west of the airport that includes NASA Glenn Research Center. Local residents enjoy access to a number of community services, including well-respected schools. As part of the Berea City School District, Brook Park elementary students attend Brook Park Memorial Elementary School or Brookview Elementary School, both located in Brook Park itself. Older kids attend BCSD schools outside of town, including the Middleburg Heights junior high school, Berea-Midpark Middle School.
