Buying vs. Rent to Own Homes?
When comparing rent to own homes with conventional home purchases, renting to own offers several advantages. The rent-to-own process gives buyers a chance to make incremental progress on homeownership. Rather than jump into the purchase and finalize the sale within a few weeks, renting to own is a longer, more relaxed process. Renting to own also makes less stringent financial demands on buyers, giving them time to improve credit scores and save a larger down payment. Since the process usually takes one to three years, rent-to-own buyers can lock in the current home price even though they won't finalize the sale for a few years.
