Silsbee is located in southeast Texas, approximately 20 miles north of Beaumont. Silsbee was settled as a railroad town in the late 1800’s. The community was named after investor Nathaniel Silsbee who provided financial support for the railroad project in the area. In its early days, the Silsbee economy was dependent on the operations of the successful Kirby Lumber Company, founded by John Henry Kirby. Children in Silsbee are served by the Silsbee Independent School District. Silsbee Independent School District is small, consisting of four schools: Laura Reeves Primary School, Silsbee Elementary School, Edwards-Johnson Memorial Silsbee Middle School and Silsbee High School. Residents do not need to travel to nearby Houston to enjoy shopping, dining or special events. These amenities are offered right in downtown Silsbee. The Ice House Museum is known for its display of local artwork and offers cultural programs that focus on the area’s past. Residents can enjoy a night out with live performances at the Silsbee Little Theater.

Buying vs. Rent to Own Homes

If you’re looking to purchase a home, you could fall into three categories: ready to buy, ready to rent to own and rent a bit longer. Buying is your best option, so if you’re ready, you should. Rent to own is also a good option because it sets you on course to buy a property soon.
