Weaverville is also a historic town, first settled by John Weaver in the late 1780s. Area road construction began in 1803, which helped to encourage further development, including churches, schools, iron works and other businesses. The establishment of Weaverville College in 1873 also drew many people to the area, While Weaverville College is no longer in use in Weaverville, town residents have access to a number of excellent schools. Buncombe County Schools operates the local Weaverville public schools as well as 45 other elementary, middle and high schools throughout the region. Younger Weaverville children attend Weaverville Elementary School or Weaverville Primary School. Weaverville Primary School serves 250 Kindergarteners and first-graders, and Weaverville Elementary School serves about 350 kids in 2nd through 4th grades. Local kids then progress to North Buncombe Middle School and North Buncombe High School, both located in Weaverville. Weaverville High School was the early-20th century predecessor of North Buncombe High. Managed by a mayor and town council, Weaverville offers a wide variety of services and amenities to its resident. Lake Louise Park and Main Street Nature Park are the two municipal parks, but locals can easily explore more recreation with the town’s entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Weaverville leaders are also working to develop Reems Creek Parkway that will encourage locals to explore historic milling sites and picturesque creek features.
